I have an EE that is 17 weeks but has been with an egg layer for half her life. I only have the two. She mimics the other hen and lays in her nest box in the evening. What is the earliest age that they will lay. I know the normal is 19-22 weeks. Thanks for the help.

I just started this chicken raising journey this year. All I can tell you is that I have 12 average age 18 weeks and I got my first egg on this past Monday with an egg everyday since. Some of my chicks were a week or two older than the rest so I am hypothising that these eggs are being laid by one of the older hens that are actually around 19 or 20 weeks. One thing I would recommend, it has been told to me that chickens don't like being in groups smaller than 3. So you might consider getting one more.
