Chickie Pi
In the Brooder
2 weeks ago I noticed my hen, Lucky, resting frequently and she appeared to be pushing. I examined her. My findings...
Egg in track BUT I cannot feel skin to shell...it's like there is no opening
Stomach bloated like overfull waterballoon
She didn't seem to be in pain.
I brought her in, soaked her in warm/hot tub for 30 min, massaged her and lived her with vasoline.
I crushed a Tums and some eggshells, mixed it with yogurt and she gobbled it down. Waited for egg.... Nothing
Did this everyday for 1st week... everything I read said she would be dead in 48 hours and that if she was a bound she wont poop, she does poop. Not as much as regular.
By week 2 she shows distress, wings hanging down, her standing like a penguin and she doesn't like it when I come to do her exam. So I switch to the soaking and the exam every other day. She eats well and she drinks well and she poops a little less than normal.
Is it possible she has a birth defect and her vent is closed or maybe the egg is blocking the opening??
