egg eating chicken

we have a checken that sits in the coop waiting for a chicken to lay a egg when a chicken does she will eat it right away what shoud i do?

feed more protein... add soy protein to their diet, or hard boiled eggs, or leftover fish, or something. That fixed a rampant problem I had with it.

I have found that you can try more protien but that is very nominal and the chickens memory is ingrained to eat the eggs. best advice is to cull the chicken, do not rehome the problem, so it is soup time for one hen.

Try a roll away nest box .. That is in the works at my house .. untill then I would at least seperate the egg eater from the flock .Just so she can not eat them .

which DID work for us ... 100% ... three months after adding protein, not one more egg eaten by hens... no culling necessary

maybe it's because they knew the coyote at the door wanted extra protein too... who knows?

Once a hen starts eating eggs, she will not stop, unless of course you eat her. (or rehome her)
