Egg rotation idea for brooder?

I don't have an auto turner in my LG still-air incubator. I thought to get one, but then I had another thought; my last batch I placed in egg cartons and just elevated one end of the carton then the other. This worked well. So why not elevate one side of the incubator, then the other? I set 40 eggs tonight. With a rolled washcloth on 3 sides inside the incubator, the unit itself can be elevated on one side without the eggs bonking or rolling. Thoughts on this?

I'm well aware I could hand turn or buy a rotator, I'm just curious about this idea.

The point is to turn the eggs not how.
