I’m not sure if this is posted under the correct topic I apologize if its not. With that being said..So it was on my Fb BYC group that I heard about(for the first time) a couple days ago of a chick dying from strangulation from mama hens feathers! I just lost my first chick to this! I know that was the cause bc I just unwrapped the feather from around its neck but its too late. 😞

So my question is… how can I prevent this from happening to the other two chicks?! We only have two chicks now 🥲please someone help me! Im so paranoid of it happening to the only other 2 we have left.

I’m so sorry about your chick :hugs

What breed is the mother hen? Does she have particularly long or thin feathers that can easily get wrapped around a chick?

I don’t think it’s very likely that it will happen again (if there’s nothing abnormal about the mom), but you could always collect and raise the chicks yourself… just an idea :)
