Empty Rice Bags

For 2 Years I've been using empty rice bags as added to nesting area for chickens to lay eggs on.

Do they like them? I like that idea.

I use old tshirts or cloth diaper prefolds. Just wash and reuse until they are falling apart. The girls love it.

Them Ladies love it... It's something to peck on or add straw/dirt to as they see fit. Remember to take out to clean it daily and it will last many months in egg laying nesting area. They somehow sometimes put a little straw underneath next to eggs!

I have no nesting material in the nest box. Just thin commercial carpet. Roll out boxes community style with no dividers, the birds do not seem to mind. I think the reason they lay in the boxes is because there are curtains and its nice and dark. One less thing

Commercial carpet use sounds grand! So easy to clean sometimes eggs are deformed or weak shell or worse Mama has a big smelly BM where she supposed to lay eggs... That Hennyko " Rhonde Island Red" Hen 3 plus years of laying plenty eggs is the Boss of her 2 year old 3 sistas! If she gets cooped up she eats egg seconds after laying! Has to go free range daily or she leaves a pile or eats egg!
