Your birds look great, Meg200000000!

I need to post a photo of my lighter colored pullet, Iluna, when she is standing up. My other 2 pullets look very much like yours in shape and color. But Iluna is smaller, and has a very weird tail area. Her tail is short and hangs down (not upright). And her feathers in the saddle area are humped up, as though she is wearing a wire hoop under her skirt! Very strange. I thought her shape would change as she grew, but it hasn't really. She's the one on the roost in post 1432, but you can't really see her shape when she is sitting like that.

Arrrrgh! For two days now page editor will not let me put pics in!!! Sorry about the huge urls...

Last Sunday's hatch... note the size difference in chicks - a direct reflection of the relative size of the pullet eggs. I'll be watching these runts closely to see how they compare. I've read negative stuff about hatching eggs from pullets, but being new to this I wanted to see for myself.

These EO's are from birds I raised from Skyline hatching eggs last Nov -Dec.
Oh - and 13 more eggs under broodies... 8 under another BA and 5 under one of the EO pullets. I'll definitely be breeding for broody qualities in my EOs - I like the idea of a self-sufficient homestead bird, and besides - I get lousy results with my foam bator. Usually less than 50%, and my broody girls are getting 100% with the same eggs unless the happen to step on one...

Nice photos! That broody has a lot of chicks! I always have broodies here, and would love to let them hatch, but I had bad luck the one time I tried it.

I gave her 2 eggs. Both hatched, but one died. I had isolated her, but after a few days she busted out and brought her chick into the flock. All was well for a couple of days, but someone put a large gash in the chick, and we were back to isolating them again.

The chick survived and is now our handsome rooster, but it took a long time for him to be comfortable with the other chicks I put him with when the broody was finished.

Nice looking groups. So you have a broody EO already? How old is she? Keep us up to date on how she does and if you notice a difference in her temperament compared to a broody BA. And maybe if you see a difference inthe chicks that are raised by an EO hen.

It's one of the round two girls that hatched the weekend of Dec 8th, so 33wks.

On the third day of her sitting tight I moved her to a dog crate and put 10 EO eggs under her. She got upset and pooped all over them, scattered them everywhere and even buried some. So I moved her back to the breeding coop for the time being, and she's been doing okay since then. I slipped six fresh ones back under her, and she seemed more comfortable after that. One has been stepped on after eight days, so I'm keeping her at 5 now. She's not as placid and focused as the BAs, but they are a full 8 months older.

She positively roars when I go to pull the day's fresh eggs out from under her. So much indignation!

It's been hot enough around here to hatch eggs whether she sits on them or not...

We received our first EO egg Saturday morning!! :ya  The girls are 23 weeks old. So happy!

Congrats! We got our first egg on Sunday! I think it wa from our 21 week old, but now I'm wondering if it was our older one who is 26 weeks old. The only reason I think it ws the younger one, is because the older one just started growing here wattles and comb.

My 16-17 week old EO roo crowed for the first time on Saturday! It was so cute! For the past couple of days he crows once at 9 am, we let them out of the coop, and he crows another time. After that he's quiet all day and night. I hope he stays quiet!
