will the fact that she has the forms filled out serve as proof? We got a refund but she said they mailed a check to us.

If she has the copies of the form mailed out, they should take that as proof (not like people keep blank IRS fromes from 5 years ago lying around).

if you received a refund, the IRS would have proof. Their computer will show all of your refunds.

Ask the ex wife to send you a copy of the taxes.
