I just joined BYC tonight. Raising chickens will be a first time experience for my husband and I.
We have all our plans in motion to become the proud owners of a small flock of layers.
The coop and run will be delivered soon, the female baby chicks will ship out to us on
April 25 -

4 Buff Orpington
4 Black Australorp
4 Barred Plymouth Rock
4 Welsummer

The brooder area is set up with all the necessities.
We are looking forward with much excitement to this new endeavor.

My husband is a disabled Vietnam veteran and after I retired from the accounting work force, we moved from Kentucky and bought 7 acres on top of this little mountain here in Claiborne County, TN . We lovingly call it Hall Mountain of course!

I'm an avid bird watcher and I adore owls. I am a beginning dabbler in photography and I love to read. Cooking is another of my favorite things to do and I'm an old fashioned country cook, I make everything from scratch !

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy fishing and camping. He is an avid golfer and loves football and basketball.

We have five grown children and eight grandchildren ranging from the age of 9 to 26.

Hi and a warm welcome to BYC. Many thanks for your introduction, its very interesting. I'm sure that you are excited about your impending chicken-keeping adventure and its good to read that you have everything prepared.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - just type the name of your state in the search box.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I would like to sincerely thank your husband for his time in service. I well remember that era - many of my friends also served in Viet Nam.

You have picked some very good breeds , I am sure you will be well pleased with them.
