Did my first ever hatch a week ago which is resulting in me owning chickens for the first time. I know nothing. My first to hatch was my one and only silkie to hatch (had 7 others out of 12 hatch) so I’d really like to help her out and keep her. Her legs/feet naturally are up by her face. She she tried to move she cannot lift her chest and pushes her face further into the ground. I’ve tied her legs together and made a “high chair” she can sit in so her feet dangle and she can move without trying to push weight. Her feet don’t drop down fully in the chair, but I can force her into a natural positions. Her feet always rebound like a spring the second I let go. It’s been about a week now and if I untie her legs they go right back out to the side. Is there any hope for her? Is there anything more I can try? She LOVES to eat and drink on her own. She tries so hard to run with the others when they come by her. Her mind seems perfectly normal. I keep giving her vitamins, electrolyte water, and her chick starter. Her hips seem to be getting stronger, but feet and toes haven’t started getting strength. I’ve told myself I would give her two weeks, but with the lack of improvement I am saddened and discouraged which is making me depressed over this stupid chick 😩

I've heard of other people giving struggling chicks NutriDrench, so you can try that. I also recommend helping your chick stand with the brace for 1 to 2 minutes a couple times each day. Make sure the brace is not on the feathers or stopping the knee joint from bending. Water and food should be within reach. We've only ever had mild to moderate cases of splayed leg, but I hope this helps. Good luck with your chick!
