I agree with the other posters that worms and old age may be the cause of your hen's behavior. For more answers, I would post in the Emergencies section of the forums.

Given her age and depending on her breed (or hybrid), her age may in fact be catching up with her. Frequently, high yield layers burn out at early ages and do not live long lives. What kind of hen is she?

so sorry,i am new to raising chickens and they do become special a part of your family.did you find out whay could of been wrong with her?

I'm sorry for your loss. Black Sex Links are exactly the type of high yield, egg laying machines that I was referring to in my post. They often put so much of their energy into laying that the only live 3 to 4 years. I'm sure you'll miss her. It's always sad to lose one of our flock.
