February 2023 hatch-a-long

Okay so far 4/7 have hatched. One is not moving much after pipping, one pipped at the wrong end and I may try to assist them after these ones dry out if nothing has happened yet. The last one I kinda thought was an early quitter. I could see feet and a beak but they were way at the small end of the egg and no movement. I put it in anyways just in case it was asleep or something but it didn't move when I water candled it before lockdown either. Either way I'm happy with the four that were born today and even better if the other two make it!

@Kimmiejayrtr: Last year I had such an egg but I did only recognize after I tosed it away. The liquid was realy sticky and I think the chick drowned in the liquid.

@All: I am now in my third year of hatching chickens and I do not help any more. So often the chicks die after helping them out of the shell. It seems there is a reason why the ar not able ot hatch

My little penguins are so adorable ❤️
5 have hatched so far, including both eggs that were pipped from the other end. No problems, i just waited and they managed. I checked the shells and it looks like one of the chicks had hit a vessel but there was only a minor bleeding so we were lucky. This chick is actually a different colour, perhaps blue? 🤨
3 eggs to go, all of them alive and busy 💪

The first one hatched last night at 9:45pm and by the time I got up this morning (after checking on them more than once overnight as well) there were five! I've moved the three driest ones to the brooder. the last four eggs have all pipped.

I'm intrigued by the colors of some of these, especially the Buff Orp offspring. It looks like my Chocolate Orp is probably the father and based on the genetics calculator, I've got some Chocolate pullets. I hope so! Last year was a terrible year for gender ratios and I would be thrilled to get some extra girls into the flock.

All 5 left have made it to lockdown! Now I’m stressing more. So nervous for these guys. But I’m ready to assist if it’s needed. The air cells are good size but might not be enough for them. Time will tell. First set of eggs ever to hatch so, I’m just happy they didn’t all die on me before hand. (Aside from my sons help)
