February 2023 hatch-a-long

Some of the newly hatched babes. Of the 12 eggs that were set to hatch on 2/25 10 have hatched. We also have 1 of our 2/28 set of 6 eggs that hatched this morning.

I thought I was done, But From the grocery store, the nearby egg farm I hatched 34/36 EE set recently, their hens are laying again. And this was one of their hens...the family who raises them say they have many gray hens. I am hoping for more like her. ($6.99 dz.)

Below on the left is eggs from that farm. I was not super happy with the aircells. One egg to the far upper left, I am not real happy with, it is a rough shell. I am still going to set these.

The eggs on the right are from a different farm near my house, and I have hatched them before. These were from a heath food store. and probably washed, but the egg cells look good. The egg to the far right lower is from my hens and one month from a rooster, but I am still going to try and set. ($8.40 dz)
Both these are not all ways available.
Below is a nice gray egg from the second lot, I love gray.

She is sooo pretty!

Aw thank you! I have no clue what she is though, She was from TSC. A family member bought her and couldn’t keep her, so I ended up with her and her sister (who was carried off by something) she is probably a production breed, all though she goes broody three times a year lol. (More than some silkies!) here let me see if I have any more.

Sorry about the bad quality, my phone hates zooming in. another fun fact about this hen, she is allmost five years old!

This is last years hatch. She is living her best broody life.

I forgot to mention, she survived 2 bad bully attacks. Now she has eye trama. (Aka heatrocroma) but she still is a fighter. Probably going to live to be at least 15. (The heatrocroma is very noticeable in the last and third to last photo.)

On the 24th and 25th I hatched out 16 baby chicks from 21 eggs.

The place that I got the eggs from had 500 hens with only 5 roosters in the coop and 18 of the 21 eggs were fertilized

I only had 3 hatch out of the 5. Which really is good considering there was a fall, and none could have made it. Problem though is I don’t think one of them is going to make it. I’m so sad and heartbroken. But there is not a thing I can do.

I know the February Hatch-Along is done, but I just wanted to post a progress photo. This is some of my chicks hatched on Feb. 4-5 - they are 4 weeks old today!
