February/March Grow-a-long

Our March rescue bantams are still thriving after their rough start. Still don't know for sure what breed the little white bird is since the hatchery they came from (via a feed store, not TSC) doesn't list any all white, straight comb bantams.

My Speckled Sussex bantams are coming along nicely. They'll be 16 weeks next Monday.

June 7, 2023 (7 cockerels, 3 pullets)

Three days later I took 4 of the cockerels to a poultry auction. It's quieted down some. 😉

Here are the 3 pullets (Hannah, Rahab, and Martha):

Martha was the yellow chick.

I also have four Dominique bantam pullets I ordered through Cackle, and they're almost 10 weeks. That will give me 2 boys, 7 girls.

I'm keeping the two cockerels that appear closest to the standard. If they can't get along then I will keep one.

He is, and he's got a jester personality.

However he's got too much orange in his feathers. Dark mahogany is the standard, and though I am not a professional breeder, I want to stay as close to the standard as possible.

Shall I ship him to you?
;)

Would love to have him but I'm afraid I can't

Well for some reason or another I haven't checked this thread in awhile (forgot I guess). Of the 7 left at my last posting, we have since gotten rid of three more roosters, only keeping one.

The three we got rid of 2 weeks ago.

Cuprous - smallest rooster but definitely the ruler of the flock while we had him. Thinking he was polish rooster with an Easter egg hen.

Quadrube - the cuckoo marans in him really started to show towards the end, also thinking blue Australorp. Never heard him crow.

Zombie - not sure what breed in there, maybe Australorp as he was bigger. His crow sounded like a broken kazoo.

And then the 4 we kept

Chweepers - thinking leghorn with opal legbar

Dib - not sure on this, hatched from green egg so Easter egger hen, maybe blue Australorp...

Gaz - skittish, fairly certain black minorca mother, father completely unknown

And the king of all the ladies...
Noire - would bet money on Cemani/Easter egger cross. Didn't start to crow until 3 days after all the other boys left. Very well behaved and even friendly. From an all black bird early on he turned out pretty cool looking. And he's got blueish green ears.
