I keep feeders full and let them decide. A chicken will eat till their energy needs are satisfied, they won't overeat.
Feed is formulated to meet their nutritional needs when fed free choice.
They pretty much eat as soon as they wake up and then periodically through the day.

Like ChickenCanoe I keep a feeder full during the day. Some days they blast through lots, other days they show little interest.
