Fence the coop, or not to fence the coop?

We have 4 Silky hens, our backyard is one acre and we have a fence around our backyard but we are afraid that they are gonna fit through it. So we are going to move thier coop back there, So will we have to put fencing around our coop? We don't have run, as they are free ranged.

My chickens free range during the day but I want all the protection I can get at night.

When in doubt ALWAYS FENCE!!!!!!!! I can't tell you how many times something has gotten my free range chickens! Especially since they are silkies. It's always a risk with free range birds but fencing will help. Good luck

Silkies are fragile little chicken snacks; they can't even fly up into a tree or bush to escape. Hawks will love them, just the right size. Long ago I had some free ranging on my farm with my flock; the daytime predators had no problem getting the cute little white fuzzies. never again! Mary
