Fermented Feed - Brand Preference?

Hello All,
I'm having an issue with Kalmbach layer crumbles. I got a bag of organic layer crumbles and they absolutely loved it fermented. The next bag of Kalmbach's was a different color but the feed store said it was the same. The ferment turned to a mortar like consistency and was not eaten that way at all. So...I found another bag that was the same as the first - at least on the outside. But that ferment turns to a sloppy mush. And then I tried a couple of specific recipes from others but really it's just water and time, right?
Has this happened to anyone else?
And what are your preferred brands of crumbles for fermenting?
Thanks!
Andy

hello Andy @lutza - welcome to BYC :frow

Yes, just feed, water and time. Any brand or scratch will work (except bran); if you're using a commercial feed and it's too thick, add more water, and if it's too thin, add more feed, until you get it to the right consistency for you and your birds. Grains will just swell.

Good luck!
