Hello, y’all! My name is Pat and my family and I own a little piece of the American dream in Southeastern PA that we are slowly turning into our own take on modern homesteading. Me, my wife and three lil’ boys are avid gardeners and are always looking for ways to be a bit more self sufficient. We are also on the strictest of strict budgets so the more we can produce for ourselves, the better off we will be.
I have been thinking about chickens for quite some time but couldn’t find a cost effective way to get started. After much deliberation, I decided that if I could build my coop with a budget of under $10 (screws, nails, bolts, etc…) and dedicate a garden bed to corn and leafy greens for feed, then I would take the plunge. Well, I came across a mess of pallets recently so last weekend my two oldest boys (5 & 3) started framing out our coop. We are on our way and I look forward to learning from the wonderful members here.
Oh, I also enjoy corn cob pipe smokin’, banjo pickin’ and beer brewin’!
