My RIR started exhibiting signs of broodiness today.
She selected a nest spot and wouldn't leave it, shouted at me when I got close to her, laid her wings out flat on the ground when I attempted to touch her. I think she may be broody, or getting there, over her very first clutch of eggs. I was able to move her and found 3 tiny eggs under her. We are rooster-less, so they'll never hatch.
She is 17 weeks, roundabouts. Is she too young to properly sit on fertilized eggs, if I were to buy some? The plan was to eventually do so, but I didn't think hens typically went broody this young. If so, when is typically a good time to let her hatch a batch?
