First Egg!!!

I have 8 Black Australorps. They are 18 weeks old today and I was so surprised to find an actual egg in the nesting box. It's been a long time since I had chickens (about 15-16 years) and since getting these chicks, I was having a time with determining if they were all hens or not. New breed to me and just didn't trust the hatchery I got them from. Sounds silly now but I really thought I had a bunch of roosters. After obsessing over that for no reason, everything has been going well. I'm just so happy and can't wait for my 4 year old granddaughter to gather eggs. She had just missed it.

Thank you. I think it's like a medium sized one for the first lay. I can't wait to fill up a carton and send it home with my daughter for her household.

It's a double yolker. I'm going to be working on getting the yolks darker. But how exciting.
