(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I started caring for chickens in July 2023. I wish I would have known this joy sooner, but I'm glad I have them now!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

5 but I would want at least 10! (I am only allowed 6 in the area where I live.)

(3) What breeds do you have?

Olive Egger, 55 Flowery Hen, Easter Egger, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, and Crested Cream Legbar. I also had a Black Copper Marans, but sadly she died. Not sure of what, but the vet thought it was Mareks. All of my chickens had been vaccinated, but maybe this one got it anyway. It absolutely BROKE my heart to lose her.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

The personalities of these sweet birds absolutely cracks me up every day. They are all a bunch of drama queens, and I am loving the show!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Baking, cooking, entertaining

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I've been married for 31 years, have 3 awesome adult children (29, 26, 19), and adore my Boxer named Brandy. I love teaching 6th graders (ELA & SS), and I'm midway through my 24th year.
