Joel Salatin let's his chickens run through his Cow manure to eat the maggots in the pile. Believe it or not the chickens love the protein.

My chickens run through my horse piles to scratch out the Undigested grains... There are also insects in the piles feeding on them but I've never seen maggots. The crows and the sun scatter and dry out the piles making them inhospitable to hatching maggots I guess.
