Fodder for Quail

I think sprouting works better than fodder for fowl. Right now I am fermenting their feed and I'm VERY pleased with the results. Fermenting makes the nutrients more available, the fact that it is wet cuts down on watering, they waste absolutely nothing, and they scarf it down amazingly quickly. I have only been doing it for a few days, I am eagerly awaiting the real trial of my current brooder babies. I plan to weigh them against the adolescents for growth rate at 6 and 8 weeks.

What were the results of experiment using different methods of preparing feed? What types of seed did you use, and do you have quails or chickens? Thanks!

Not and have them thrive. Fodder is more for grazing livestock, it's too low in protein for quail. The quail chicks will not gain weight and size properly. Most sprouting grains have 10-16% protein and it gets less upon sprouting. Quail chicks need 28-30% protein so at least twice as much as sprouts would provide. Fermenting feed is the better route to go.
