Food and water equipment/placement for small coop?

What is the best strategy for food/water placement in a small coop? Right now it is below the coop in the run, but they don't have access to it at night currently as they get closed in the coop (its still pretty cold here at night, close to freezing temps). As the summer progresses and temps rise I'll be leaving the door open so they can always access the run, but I'm not sure what to do when winter comes. With the coop itself being so small, I'm a little lost on in-coop storage that may be necessary for winter nights.

Chickens don't eat at night if it's dark... only rats and raccoons do. ;)

Mine is placed in the run and collected EVERY night.

Also, you'd be surprised that ventilation is key to avoiding frost bite during harsh winters so closing may not be your best option if it causes moisture to build just from the breath being exhaled. SO research that a little. :)

You may want to look into PVC feeders/waterers for the run since they are very space efficient. You can buy them or make them yourself.

Here are a few examples of PVC feeders:

And waterers:

And some commercial options:

EggSighted4Life has a point about food at night. If you are concerned someone here posted that they had a metal trashcan near by and they just picked up the feeder and stuck it in the trashcan at night.

This is great help, thanks so much!

We have the food and water in the run. The run so far has kept predators and pests out. So the food stays 24x7. If I see evidence of pests dining, maybe a sliding cover might do the trick. There are pictures in it coop article.
