First, you need a STATE column. I would not do price or egg color, you will never be able to keep that right and you would have to do that for every BREED, and you need a breed column. Also, do they sell hatching eggs, chicks, started birds and do they ship and what do they ship. You may not need that if it just for local. A website column or contact info... something to link to the seller.

BTW the Breed column, you can add as many as you want in the one column with a comma between breeds... Like Marans, Ameraucanas, Easter Eggers etc. When someone searches in the document they will be able to find the breeders that have the breed they are looking for and know how far they will have to drive.

Nice quick lay out--Center headers ok? LOL Price should be formatted for 2 decimal places if you will be keeping pricing in.

WIll you be adding color? Perhaps every other line in a color. A soft pastel color easy to read the font color which is black. Just a suggestion. Reading across many columns can cause jump in row. Or have a blank line between.

The headers and 2 decimal places were set but were changed when converted to a Google document. I've managed to set the decimal again but can't seem to properly center the headers on this format. On the final version the locations will be alphabetized and color will be added to make viewing easier. Additional contact information is being considered but seeing as this will be viewed by thousands of our members internet safety must be a first priority.

Looks really good to me, with the suggestions added. Since this was only suggested as an eating egg project, Im not sure if listing breeds is all that important. Im not so sure anyone searching for free range eggs is really going to care. Color is ok, again, Im not sure if that isnt extraneous info for someone just looking for eating eggs. The only questions Im asked from people wanting eggs are "how much" and "how many do you have?" I do think keeping it simple will make it much more useable to people wanting to buy eating eggs close by to them.

All in all, looks great. You've done a lot of work here that Id have no clue how to do.

Halo you've made a good point. Amount of eggs available will vary greatly depending on the person and will need to be some how Incorporated

Sorry, that was not mentioned in any of the posts.... price might be a requirement then..... the spreadsheet makes more sense now.

A few question... who is this list intended to target? BYCers who already have chickens? Will regular people without chickens be able to find this somewhere else other than BYC? How are you going to publish it? Some state require a license to sell eating eggs so that might should be a field too.


Why is the Database called Hatching Eggs if this is for eating eggs? Confused... really confused.

I agree it defiantly would be. If the Eating Egg one is a success we may be able to pull off one for hatching eggs.
