I have 1 ohiki hen. She went broody once and I have her 5 eggs. None developed. Then I have her more eggs that I knew were fertile..... none developed.

Just saw this. Too bad she didn't carry through.

It looks like they do well free range. They'd probably fly over my neighbors massive fence system and scare the poor city folk to death. That is if they fly.

Mine do well, but they stay on the property... yes, they fly... really well too...

When I free range the chickens they stay close by as well. Your area looks flatter than mine.

I have never had more than one or two broody at any given time, until I got the AC. Now I spend all spring and summer, and apparently fall, trying to convince them to keep working for their keep. I've only got 12 AC hens, so six broodies is a lot!

Moved birds to winter pens today. Then spent about an hour and a half starting at dusk getting birds out of the trees and back into the coop. Sometimes I just want to take them biddies over my knee and spank them!

Good question or maybe the area was too hot. I lost a broody because she wouldn't be moved to a cooler spot no matter how hard I tried.
