In most cases waiting 4-6 weeks is the only accurate way. Vent sexing is for trained specialists. Feather sexing only works on chicks specifically bred for that trait, by using a fast feathering male over a slow feathering female. Sex linked chicks can be created by either using a solid colored male (non white, non barred) over a barred female, or a gold male over a silver female. There are a small number of autosexing breeds as well. But if your chicks do not fall into any of these categories you have to wait until the chicks are 4-6 weeks old, or older in the case of most silkies.
