No need to gauge the comb, look at the chest feathers. None of your photos are from the front so I'll just say this: Black chest = male (on a chick, it's splotches of black at first), a solid salmony rose shade is female. Always.

x2 on this. There's nothing rooster about this bird. This color is easy to sex as soon as they feather out. Black chest is male, salmon/light brown is female.

I wouldn't be quite as confident, but it should hold pretty true.....depending on the color of the EE. I had EEs years ago where the hens and rooster were both colored very similar to brown Leghorns, so basically same as Welsummers. The offspring of the EE/leghorn cross were able to be sexed that way.

Basically, a hen will only have a black breast if she's a black bird. A brownish bird with a black breast is male.
