I have recently been given a 7 year old nanny goat, She has not been bred in the past 5 years as she was just a pet. What are the chances of her breeding now after such along break from her first and only kid.
Thanks.

Not sure, but be prepared to bottle feed babies if something happens to her. I have heard that things can happen with older does.

What kind of goat?

7 years old isn't that old to kid- at least for a dairy goat- as long as she is in good health. Most responsible breeders I know of don't retire their does until around the age of 10 as long as they remain healthy. I'm not sure if there is a difference for other breeds.

Now, fertility is generally better without a long time between breeding, but that doesn't mean breeding will be unsuccessful wither.

she is a cross bred dairy type goat. It is the five year gap from her last kid that made me think breeding her would not be successful.
might try it anyway,thanks
