I am looking to start a small flock 5-7 in the Spring and was wondering which breed would be best. I am looking for egg layers primarily, and a meat eater occasionally. Looking for something quite and tame. I have been offered some mix breed eggs, but wanted to hear from you all first. Thanks.

You want to tell him about there being no such thing as a small flock after you've been bitten by BYC bug or should I?

I don't have my chickens yet either. In the spring I am going to be getting brahmas. They seem to suit my needs/wants the best, but these folks here know their chickens so I'm sure you'll get lots of excellent imput.

SILKIES... everyone can agree to that...i own them and i know what im talking about...whoever owns them can agree with me...right?

Their not the best egg layer though??

I'd go with Langshans(?) or Orpingtons, our EEs are pretty good too, but they can be crazy.
