Greek chicken breeds

I'm 100% Greek and when I went to Greece to visit my grandma and aunt they had chickens (if you live in village 90% people have them). I was kinda young so I couldnt tell the breeds back then but they had strange chickens with different colors. I know this dosnt help, but I would like to know if Greece has there own breeds.

Everytime I google those breeds I get cooked greek chicken recipes... and your sorces don't work.
My mom cooks roosters with lemoni and potatas alot in the oven and you links don't help...

We Need pics of the breed

Anyway here are two links ,with photos, that may help link1 (after page 35) , link2 (greek) I can verify that the first 5 pics of the black bearded chickens are from a Greek Chicken breed called Boufoi (or Boufunes ) of Thrace.

Wow, great links. Thank you! The Hooded Greek Katsouliari is very nice looking. It's very interesting that sometimes it is naked necked.

What do you think, stoneunhenged? Are you tempted? Awfully cute chicken with that hood on top. Unique. Distinctive. The name is pretty, too! Kat-soo-lee-ah-ree.

Sure, it's interesting. Always tempting when you see something exotic like this. What's also interesting is that Greece is at the very edge of the western range of the world map from which the USDA allows birds to be legally imported. Go just a few miles farther west --like in Turkey-- and there is a ban against importing poultry into the US because of avian flu. So, there might be some truly rare stuff in Greece that you don't find in Western and Central Europe.

I have a plan to import Greek barnyard chickens to America and turn them into a breed. On the Feathersite page for Greek Chickens http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGD/Greece/BRKGreekStreets.html all of them look the same with different colors. The chickens from Mykonos (also on Greek Chickens page) look different than the normal ones and have long legs, a short tail, and smaller comb. I definitely can't do it now, though. (It would cost about $1197 just for the government import fees for 10 chickens at minimum, and you have to pay a veterinarian from the country the chicken comes from to get a health check for it, and shipping costs, etc.)
