HATCH ALERT !!!!!! Alice's Birthday Party - WE GOT BABIES !!

WE INTERRUPT THIS BIRTHDAY THREAD WITH A BREAKING NEWS REPORT FROM THE COOP - WE HAVE PEEPS !!!!!!

OH MY LORD, MY WIFE IS BESIDE HERSELF WITH EXCITMENT AND JOY !!!!! And old tough guy I am, I am crying. Happy tears.



Well the wife and I have had a lot of sadness in the pet owning world lately. We lost two hens last year, then on Good Friday our beloved Tony the rooster died (see our avatar) and then his hen Alice went broody on some dud eggs. She was so patient for four weeks. No luck. Then about 2 weeks ago my wife's iguanna Zipper passed on from old age. Sure seems like we couldn't catch a break.

Anyway RBAMTERRY and Family gave us four eggs and the magic time should be Saturday, Alice has been broody for SEVEN WEEKS. We're having my in-laws over for a Birthday Party, baby chick style. the menu changed a bunch of times but this is what were having:

I was always taught to get a lot done in advance, so today I made the rub, have an 8lb. pork butt in a freezer bag with the rub already on it which will marinate like that for two days, made the Sweet Potato Roll dough already, and made a fresh batch of mayonaisse for the cole slaw (Asian Slaw I add fresh pineapple chunks, walnut pieces and raisins to) . Tomorrow I'll shape and let the rolls rise, then bake them off. While they are baking I'll make the banana cream pie and the slaw. Then on Saturday morning all I have to make is the pulled pork, the barbeque sauce and the Jersey Corn On THe Cob.

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms last night - the teeth of the storm passed thru here about 4 am... Some time during all that THIS LITTLE CUTIE and at least one more came into our world...

Alice is being very persnickety about us touching her or lifting her, but we got this one pic !!!

We've tried every food excuse to go bother Alice and when we took her scrambled eggs and smoked salmon (YEAH, it's BigMike's House what do you expect ????) this is what we dug up... Nan says she has seen THREE so far, the first one, this one and another dark one...

We went to try to get another photo op, Alice clearly did not want us bothering her. So we talked to her, telling her how proud of her we were, how brave and patient she was for sitting all these 7 weeks on eggs and how happy we were for her. It surely seemed like she comprehended what we told her and she appreciated the cudos...

It's turning sunny and warming up so we opened Alice's screen door so she could have some view, here is another baby, "he" kept moving around so the photo is a tad blurry....
