Hatching Mats

Do I need a hatching mat?? Basically I have a very cheap incubator that hold 7 eggs and I’m sure in egg lockdown you have to Place them on the side but how on earth am I supposed to when the egg holder can only hold eggs upwards!! Also the little chicks will fall through the holes. So shall I get a hatching mat?

You can cut some plastic shelf liner to fit in there. Or use the ribbed half of a corrugated piece of cardboard

Go to any store that has kitchen stuff and buy the shelf liner that is grippy and has holes in it. It will help if any chicks have splay leg or prevent chicks from getting splay leg (after hatch).
