Just wanted to say hello to all the other chicken fans. Myself, wife and daughters have started raising chickens to number one have fresh eggs and number two to teach the girls resposibilty for taking care of another living thing. We currently have 2 Indian game hens that are already laying and two other game hens that are young. One of these two just recently started laying and we are getting around two eggs a day.

We have just added 18 new chicks to our flock that are currently in our brooder. We have 6 barred rocks,6 rhode island reds and 6 black jersey giants that are 10 days old currently. We are all looking forward to see if we have been right by guessing the boys from the girls. My current bet is as htese were striaght run is 4 female rhode island reds, 2 female barred rock and 3 female jersey giants, so itlooks like we will have a few roosters to try and barter out this summer.

Hello and welcome from Ohio...so glad you joined BYC. Best of luck with your new chicks and hopefully there are more hens than you suspect

Hello welcome from Louisiana come in and take your shoes off, stay a while. I have found that roos will have thicker legs than pullets and fewer tail feathers when still youg.
