Checkin' in from Southeast Texas. I have three Rhode Island Reds, and with the recent rains, the pen got muddy. Duh! Well, now I detect an ordor that is not pleasant. Duh! again

Anyone know what I can do to eliminate this? Is it safe to spread lime in the chicken pen? I don't want my neighbors getting this aroma. Thanks all for your help. Glad to be with Backyard Chickens.

I would spread some lime and cover with sand.

Thank you for that. I just didn't know if the lime would be good for the hens or the eggs. Covering with sand sound like a good idea. I'll do that and let you know.
Thanks again.

A lot of people use sand in there runs to keep down mud, I use a local product it's like sand with small gravel in it, it is mined locally and I get a dump truck load with delivery for $125.00 with the small gravel in it they eat as grit. I use pine chips inside the coop some people on here use sand inside also.
Welcome and enjoy!
