Hello Backyard Chickens! I worked on a small organic diversified farm with over 300 meat and egg laying chickens and ducks a couple of years ago but live in the city now and have 8 sassy layers and a few raised beds. I have a mix of breeds, including 4 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Blue Isbar x White Leghorn, and 3 Barred Plymouth Rock. I have a mix of two age groups from the same friend's farm.
I love having a taste of the country in my backyard, and having delicious eggs of course! I often shared eggs with neighbors and friends as well.
This summer I am looking forward to working on my permaculture-based garden skills and seeing how I can incorporate my chickens into that foodscape. I am very lucky to live in a place where my landlord supports having chickens and growing veggies. It just wouldn't be the same!
