Greetings!
I've been 'lurking' for some time now, having first bought eggs from the BYC marketplace last August. I really enjoy all of the chicken information and general chicken enthusiasm here!
I'm a mom of two little boys and we live on an acreage with several chickens, four horses (Al Khamsa Arabian), two standard poodles, six barn kitties, and an old Shetland sheep. I developed severe allergies a few years ago and cannot be too close to the critters. I like the chickens because I can watch them from a distance and see (mostly worry about) them hatch! I love to have them in the garden, even if they are a bit destructive at times.
Our favorite chickens are the EEs/Ameraucanas - pretty eggs and they have been great with the kids! We are also trying a few French Black Copper Marans. My oldest son is really looking forward to his poultry project in 4-H this year.
