I was a member of BackYard Chickens several years ago when my oldest 2 kids were younger and had 4-H chickens. Now my youngest has caught the fever, even though we haven't had any poultry for 8 or 9 years. We currently have 2 Easter eggers and unfortunately one turned out to be a roo. He is overmating the hen, so she had to be separated temporarily. We are going to ask around in our 4-H club for a couple more hens, and may get a couple of ducks, too. I swear that will be all this time! ;)

! Pleased you joined our community! Glad you kids have been bitten by the chicken bug! Believe it or not, you might actually consider a chicken saddle for your over-mated hen. Here's a link that talks about them: https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=chicken+saddle
And if you'd like to chat with some in-state poultry folks, find your state thread in the link below and say howdy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread
Best of luck with chickens and thanks for joining BYC!

Best of luck finding more hens and to your youngster with 4H!

My hen has been wearing a chicken saddle, but it doesn't cover right where the wing meets the body. This is where he has pecked out or broken off her feathers. We will keep them separated until her feathers grow back or we get more hens. Oh crap, now I will need more saddles: well, thanks for the link!
