Chirping
Hi all.
I have a nearly 2 day old baby chick. I had 30+ chicks hatch and they are in a very large brooder and all thriving. However my tiniest chick can't stand on one of its legs. When I checked it closely it had a tiny little bit of blood on its leg joint( what would be its knee?) so I placed a little tiny bandage around it very gently and not tight. On checking it again today it just kept lying on the floor and getting trampled on, so I quickly got it out and checked the cut, which looks like it had scabbed over a bit but the pink colour leg it had is now going black!! It looks like dark dark blood, it's a little on its foot and then all the way up on its leg as far up as I can see. It's other leg is perfectly fine and it is thriving other than the leg keeping her stuck to the floor or hopping out the way and food and water. What could she have done? I can't say that it wAsnt there from second she came out but I'm sure I would have noticed as I watch them carefully when together to make sure they are eating etc. now when she does stand on the other leg, other chicks see her leg lifted and peck it knocking her over. The normal leg extends out straight and fine but I can only (gently) move this leg so far before it stiffens and I won't move it anymore. Is it broken? Is the leg dying? Could it just be bruised. I've tried separating her but she cries for the others so I have put 4 in with her in a. Little home made brooder. Please help does she need a visit to the vet (££££) or is there something I can do? I hope I can fix it but I will take her to the vet if not. I don't want to leave her as she seems to be so sad and uncomfortable !!
