I got to work and my sister called and said they temp spiked to 107. I checked it before I left and it was at 100 and there wad signs of life I am now on my last day of lockdown. This is my first time hatching duck eggs. The temp spiked for at the most 2 hours. What are the chances they will still hatch :( i am worried. Thanks in advance!

If it is hard and dry, use a qtip and vaseline is better if you have it... otherwise, take a deep breath, be patient and wait... :)
Thry take much longer than chicks to come out... as long as it can breath and isn't stuck in, it should be fine... btw, make sure you don't get the vaseline/ointment in the nares...
I had one take 3 days to finish hatching... she is now my favorite little mob boss, lol...

Thanks petal.

It is not uncommon for ducks to take even up to 48 hours from pip to zip. Dont panic!! You should continue to hear peeping, so as long as they don't sound distressed, let them do their thing. As long as they are getting air from the pip hole, just try to be patient. How big is the pip hole? Can you post a pic?

Thanks for rescue.

Just wanted to share an update of the ducks and this little kitten I rescued that found her way to the ducks and they are now inseparable :)

You could candle, or you could wait and see. Did your sister get the temp down right away? I read somewhere that if there is a temp spike, and the eggs are intact (have not pipped) they can be cooled with short water baths. You'd have to do some research regarding the recommended temp for the water. Too cold and it would send them into shock.
