Hen Killing Roosters???

I wasn't lobbying for a stay of execution just trying to help OP with the question of why.
Then again I'd have no issue with rehoming it as long as it was with full disclosure of what happened.
LOL I wasn't questioning you :hugs
Some birds are just nuts, it very well could be a cockerel, I'm no good with gender on any type of crested bird:oops:
Bird might get a "Stay" if @NoFlyBackFarm takes him/her - I have no problems with that either, she knows history of bird or at least what has been posted.
For me personally, I would cull. I'm to blasted old and cantankerous to put up with a whole lot of nonsense:D

This does not smell right. Please post a picture of the "hen".
"Hen" photo is here https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/hen-killing-roosters.1279382/page-2#post-20610908

:he Habit? Killing 3 birds is a definite habit!
This just goes against everything I know about chickens behaviors.
The OP states that she watched as this hen walked up and snapped another birds neck...now unless this chick has ninja like skills and the power of a lions jaw in her beak the whole sinario sounds like Kujo’
Chickens just don’t stand there while something snaps it’s neck. We’ve all seen skirmishes-full on frontal attacks. Roo’s grabbing from behind and the fight the hen would put up.
They fight or flight....naturally.
IF this chicken has these god given abilities full disclosure would land her in the world of MMA fighting.
If TRUE this bird is bat*hit crazy. Reform that. Sugar coat that. Give that to someone else. Put that in your flock. Better yet use it as a stocking stuffer for your friendenemy!
I’m going to do housework. Happy Saturday!:he

At 9 months old... where are the eggs?!

I would eat that little Beeyotch. :drool

Don't post her for free... even with disclosure... to many sicko's...

Maybe Nofly will have luck. :fl Though for me personally I wouldn't risk the rest of my flock to another bird who COULD bring hidden disease and pass on the added drama.

I tried the broomstick method for a boy who was too small for my cone the other day... it went bad. I basically ended up rendering him unconscious and had to finish in my cone anyways. The cone/jugular did take practice as well when I first started. The co2 method might work for you. Here are a few links to check out or you could search chicken or poultry euthanasia. Worst comes to worse... some people will take animals to the vet for euthanasia.

So sorry the broomstick method did not work for you - it does take a little practice as well.
**Graphic description ahead**
You've got to pull harder than you think you will. But that broomstick/rake - whatever has to be in the right position for sure.
You can actually "feel" the dislocation when pulling.
Yep, I've pulled way too hard too:oops: We know what happens there.
A large heavy rooster, you need to put some muscle into it.

For me it's quick - over in seconds, so that's why I chose this method.
We all have our own methods, since you found that this one doesn't work for you, then go with cutting the jugular from now on.

Just shoot the bird in the back of the head and be done with it.
There are firearm ordinances in many locations and lots of people don't own any. An air rifle might work. I would still suggest some sort of restraint as hitting a moving target isn't that easy. But I did consider it an option for a bird I didn't plan to eat but decided to dispatch after giving time to heal from an eye wound that did not get better... Seems like an easy option, if you have it.

We had to dispatch a cat that my 3 dogs caught and were called off of but was beyond help. It is difficult to KNOW the movements taking place are nerve firing reactions in an unfamiliar animal and not them trying to get away from... well, pain. Using a smaller caliber (probably 22)... and shooting toward the dirt... able to see the entry wound but not the exit... :barnie Taking a life, even out of kindness... it's still hard. :hit Maybe even harder than taking a life to eat. :hmm

I agree, any method takes probably takes practice. :thumbsup
