Something strange happened today. This March, our 2-year old barred rock, Mike, stopped laying. We weren't sure why. Today, eight months later, she layed. It's torpedo-shaped, and looks like it was a labored lay.
I'm just curious--what would cause her to stop laying for eight months and then restart? (Don't get me wrong, I'm happy!)

Some background:
When she stopped laying, I spotted worms in the hen poop. I treated for worms in April. Then we had a mite outbreak, and I treated for mites (June). Through all of this, Mike had diarrhea (and I think she still does). There were several times in April and May I thought she was a goner. I gave up on her laying and was wondering if she'd make it to winter. Now....egg!!!!!
