So today we have finally gotten our first egg from one of our ladies, however it looks a little strange. They are Brown egg layers, golden comets, and the egg looks speckled rather than solid brown. Can anyone look at these picks and tell me if this is just because it is her first or is it a deficiency? Also it is quite small...adorable but much smaller than I expected.

My Brarred Rock hens that are a year old have some white speckles on their eggs, but I love it. It’s not as many as when they first started laying and one has a lot less than the other one. I think they’re pretty!

Looks to be excess calcium or excess bloom,
probably just a new layer glitch, or it might continue.

'Speckled' eggs can happen for several different reasons...very few, if any, of which are a 'problem'.
Can be caused by:
Excess or uneven pigment coating.
Excess or uneven cuticle(bloom).
Excess calcium deposits.
Porous eggs can appear speckled.
Some birds lay them consistently, some only once in awhile.
The pigment or bloom can change appearance when wet, then change back when dry again.

As long as bird is getting a good diet and is healthy in every other way, it is no cause for concern.
