I've been interested in chickens since I was a youngster. My Dad raised chickens with a kerosene brooder, a 100 at a time. My Uncle raised 25 at a time in a home made wheeled brooder box. I really liked that wheeled brooder, so my Uncle gave it to me. As my egg sales increased I used my Dad's brooder for larger batches of chicks.
I became interested in Ancona's as they were a very attractive as well as a great egg laying bird. However my market preferred brown eggs, so black sex-linked were the last chicks that I raised
Along the way many bantams were raised by broody hens.
The last chicks I raised were in the mid 50's, so its been quite awhile.
