I'm still not sure what breeds I want, I love them all...were considering orpingtons, buckeye, barred rock, Cochin, and marans. We live off grid north, northern Nevada in the mountains and we need a dual purpose, cold resistant bird.

Those are great breeds! I'd also recommend New Hampshires (they're sweet chickens that lay lots of eggs and are great with cold) Wyandotte's, and orpingtons.
