Holidays are just amazing, and Christmas is one of those at the top of my list. While I do love the treats (especially Krumkake and Lebkucken,) the lights, etc., my favorite part is the advent build up to the BIG DAY with the folks I love most and the traditions. One of my favorites was started by my oldest son when he was almost 3 years old. While getting presents for others, he wanted to give Jesus a present, since it is, after all, HIS birthday! After explaining that what we give to others is a way of giving to Christ, we started our "magi gift giving" tradition. We choose 3 recipients (Humane Society, wild deer near Grandpa's cabin, Operation Christmas Child, Firemen, whatever the KIDS choose, then we make a gift for them, and deliver it with costumes and a Happy Birthday, Jesus tag! The recipients as well as the kids love it and it has made MANY beautiful memories for us as well as reinforcing that a gift doesn't always have a bow or a price tag!
