Aloha from Hawaii!

I currently do not own any chickens, but have wanted to for a long time now. Soon I will be in a position to get a few hens potentially, after some research and a lot of work.

I am an artist living on Oahu in a rural area, and will soon have the space for a coop and run for about three chickens. My main interest in having these critters is to experience raising them and making training attempts (I spend a lot of time home alone, working on my art, so I have a lot of time) while enjoying the benefits of their appetite for centipedes. Up here on the jungle we get a lot of them, and they are apparently a chicken's favorite thing to eat.

I have a lot of questions, research and planning still ahead, but I thought I would get ahead of the game a little bit and start now. I am really looking forward to this project and finally having my own little flock.

Thank you everyone!

Hi there,

and welcome to BYC!

There is some really good reading in the learning center here on BYC that might help you get started...

And here is our coop section for some ideas on coops...

These should get you started out right. Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Thank you everyone for the warm invitation! I can't wait to learn a little something, and of course I really can't wait to get some chicks. I am super excited to see there are a few other members on the island, who I am sure will have invaluable info for me. Chickens love this climate, we have wild ones all over. They are basically like pidgeons out here.
