how can i prevent a rooster from crowing?

You cannot give them a magic stop crowing pill but you can inhibit them as well as muffle them. I don't hear mine crow at all now until Im ready.

One thing that worked for me, is to make a Roo pen, and round up the boys at nite and the one who is dominant will crow, but, the other subordinates won't do much. This worked in my Barred Rock pen, and I bought a Buff Roo runt. He NEVER crowed. I guess cause he was just not use to crowing anymore.

Well, if you have ever had tropical birds, you keep them from driving you nuts in the morning by covering their cage at night. They don't start making noise until they see light when you finally pull off the cover.

It looks like this is what Msbear is accomplishing with her roo box concept.
