She will be 17 weeks tomorrow. Her comb and wattles have been getting larger and redder, how much longer till she starts to lay?

My BA has had beautiful red comb and waddles for a few weeks and has been squatting for at least 2 weeks. My RIR has reddenned up this week. I wonder who will lay first. The NHR still has a small pink comb. They are all 21 weeks.
Oh, the waiting

Do you have fake eggs in the nesting box yet? Have you noticed them scratching around in there? More than the squatting, that was the real sign for me...mine started laying fairly soon after spending time in the nesting box each day.

Judging from the comb color, any time! Barred Rock? My BRs started laying around 19 to 20 weeks. When they start squatting, I would get them on layer feed, squatting means eggs are coming down the pipes soon! :)

Theyre officially hens at 18 weeks,
Nope.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
