How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

The girls have been slowing down the past week.

Yesterday was only one egg!!!

And I am now officially out of eggs!!!! Oh NO!

Three already today. The only thing I'll miss about my ducks when they are gone are the extra 10 or so eggs a week they give me.

so far, only one, but it was a new layer! the other girls usually lay late morning and afternoon, so here's to hoping for a 6 egg day!

9 today......that is not impressive at all! Seeings how I have about 30 layers right now!

I haven't had an egg from them since the week before Thanksgiving.

1 goose egg.

I got 6 out of 6 layers and this is with no added light. I heard before that people need to put light in the building to keep them laying. This is a myth. The only thing that may be helpful in adding a light is to keep the chicken's ovulating. I've read somewhere that they only ovulate 6 months out of a year and any eggs during her off-season won't be fertile. I don't know how true this is but it's worth researching for those that are interested.

I always give my girls a long rest after their fall molt before I add light to provide optimum laying.

My 4 year old flock of light brahmas is providing on average 4 eggs a day with only 8 hens.

Temps have been below 0 for a full week, with wind chills in the -40 range.

Yep I know.... yada yada yada....but you should feel how cold it really is here....and to have a flock perform like that is priceless!

Gotta love those light brahmas!
